Description
"Red Skin"
If you look at just the red color, you will see the word SKIN. In grey, you will see many "hidden" images: feather, whale tail, eagle head, arrow head, a paddle with waves and/or an eagle and bears, part of another whale tail, part of a wing, and an Indian sitting by a fire. The red dotted-line stems from an experience that I had while surfing in Hawaii. I was stung by a jelly fish, and the dots show the pattern that it left on my forearm. You will see this pattern in many of my works. Part of me was hoping that the scar would stay visible because I thought it looked so cool and it reminded me of the dots on the side of a turntable (which reminds me of my earlier days as a dj). Unfortunately the little scars healed and disappeared. Perhaps a new tattoo design? I think so!
This was one of the paintings that I created while sitting on the beach with my family back home on the Lummi reservation in Washington state. My energy was great due to being reunited with family, not to mention, the ocean has always proven to be inspirational. I just kept painting and painting and was very please with how it all came together.
Representing small parts of our culture as a RED SKIN.
